It’s a tug of war for the ages…and one perhaps that not even the Amazing Amazon herself could have anticipated! At the beginning of this year’s theatrical blockbuster season, Wonder Woman 1984 the much anticipated sequel to the hit film based on the DC Comics character and starring Gal Gadot was set to premiere, and then the global pandemic hit! With theaters closing all across the globe and social distancing becoming a requirement, director Patty Jenkins kept insisting the movie get pushed, until it could be enjoyed on the big screen just as the filmmakers had intended.
Unfortunately with time marching on, the the COVID crisis basically still in effect, Warner Bros. (the studio holding the reigns) has decided on a strategy that will hopefully, bare some fruit — keeping the film still relevant and accessible to audiences with a multi-pronged release this Christmas both in theaters and on the newly launched subscriber-based app HBOMax. The latter of which will premiere Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously as its theatrical release, though mostly limited to IMAX Theaters, thus given the film a chance to wow on the multiplex, while encouraging its other fans to watch from the comfort of home!
