The Amazing Amazon is Unleashed!

Sat, 28 Nov 2020

After getting pushed due to the global pandemic,

WONDER WOMAN 1984 is getting released this Christmas in theaters as well as on the HBOMax subscriber platform!

It’s a tug of war for the ages…and one perhaps that not even the Amazing Amazon herself could have anticipated! At the beginning of this year’s theatrical blockbuster season, Wonder Woman 1984 the much anticipated sequel to the hit film based on the DC Comics character and starring Gal Gadot was set to premiere, and then the global pandemic hit! With theaters closing all across the globe and social distancing becoming a requirement, director Patty Jenkins kept insisting the movie get pushed, until it could be enjoyed on the big screen just as the filmmakers had intended.

Unfortunately with time marching on, the the COVID crisis basically still in effect, Warner Bros. (the studio holding the reigns) has decided on a strategy that will hopefully, bare some fruit — keeping the film still relevant and accessible to audiences with a multi-pronged release this Christmas both in theaters and on the newly launched subscriber-based app HBOMax. The latter of which will premiere Wonder Woman 1984 simultaneously as its theatrical release, though mostly limited to IMAX Theaters, thus given the film a chance to wow on the multiplex, while encouraging its other fans to watch from the comfort of home!

Early indication on the film is that Wonder Woman 1984 is on a path to meet fan expectations. Both Gadot and Jenkins had a huge hit on the their hands with the first film released in 2017, and its star has remained a favorite since stealing the thunder out from right under the big boys in Gadot’s introduction as Diana Prince in Zack Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Gadot reprised her role again in Justice League but the theatrical team action-flick didn’t live up to the hype. It has since drawn serious attention to a “reboot” from Snyder, who had handed over the unfinished film to Josh Whedon.

A large on-line campaign to “Free the Snyder Cut” from fans, as well as the support of many of the film’s cast (including Gadot) has lead to the director retooling of his version of Justice League which is also now on track to premiere in HBOMax in 2021. The subscriber site will soon be the home for most DC related content, and the ideal destination for a wide release of Wonder Woman 1984. The film is set to scheduled to hit various international markets throughout the month of December, while premiering on December 25, 2020 to the HBOMax audience.

Wonder Woman 1984 stars Gal Gadot and Chris Pine with Kristen Wiig and Pedro Pascal, and is directed by Patty Jenkins.

In The Meantime!

Get caught up on the mythic spic tale that introduces the origins and backstory of Princess Diana (Gal Gadot) and her first foray into Man’s World to save itself from the machinations of the mad God of War, Ares! The film features an all-star cast including Chris Pine and Danny Huston and is directed by Patty Jenkins, and helps to fill out the space between the heroine’s enigmatic intro in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and the follow-up in Justice League.
